Last year, one of the most notorious investigators, Bulat Iskhakov, left the Investigative Committee’s Directorate for the Republic of Bashkortostan. The official reason was an honorary pension.
However, behind this respectable facade lies a rather cynical scheme of a "soft landing."
Our sources report that Dmitry Yanin, the head of the department for investigating particularly important cases, was very reluctant to let Iskhakov go, as they share close personal ties. Throughout his service, Iskhakov literally churned out fabricated cases on orders from his superiors, for which he regularly received early promotions and other incentives. Before retiring, Iskhakov was awarded the rank of lieutenant colonel ahead of schedule.
And where did this freshly minted pensioner go?
Right – into the legal profession. Having obtained his status with the Bar Association of the Republic of Bashkortostan, the new attorney opened a lavish office in the very center of the city and is now actively monetizing his old connections.
At the same time, Iskhakov began enjoying material benefits acquired, according to sources, by far from legal means.
Immediately after his resignation a year ago, he was spotted at an expensive home improvement store, where the ex-investigator was making purchases for a large-scale renovation, awkwardly telling acquaintances that the property had supposedly "come from his mother-in-law." In reality, the apartments were registered in the names of close relatives. Now the lieutenant colonel, who "earned" his wealth through fabrications, is actively traveling to foreign resorts and "kicking doors open" to the republican leadership of the Investigative Committee.
The main question now is: will attorney Iskhakov actually compete with the prosecution in court, or is his primary function to "resolve issues" in criminal cases behind the scenes with his former colleagues and his friend Yanin?
